Aiming High – support for young people with a disability
Do you or does someone you know have a disability?
If yes, have you heard about the Aiming High for Disabled Children project?
AHDC is a council project which aims to improve disability services for young people in Halton.
If you’re aged under 18 and you have a disability, there are a number of ways that you can benefit from Aiming High:
-
Short Breaks: Short Breaks are activities that can last from just a couple of hours, to as long as a few days together. They’re arranged to suit the people that they’re run for (you!), so there are loads of different types of Short Breaks available. Some examples would be pool parties, picnics, themed activity evenings, art groups, and trips to places like Llandudno and the Lakes. If you’re into sports there are loads of Short Breaks with a sporty theme, like football sessions, biking, and sports competitions, that you can also get involved in.
-
Youth Clubs: There are also a number of Youth Clubs which are run in different venues and on different days of the week. Youth Clubs are a great place to go if you want to get out of the house, make new friends, and have fun doing something different.
-
Bright Sparks: Part of the job of Aiming High is to learn what people think about the services that are available for them. Bright Sparks is a consultation service set up specially for young people with disabilities, so that you can share your views on how you think you’re being listened to in school and by the services that you use. Bright Sparks is run by Halton Speak Out in Runcorn. If you’re interested in getting involved and having your say, then you can get in touch with Halton Speak Out on 01928 588526, or post your message on their blog: http://brightsparkshalton.wordpress.com/.
-
Feedback: If you have an opinion about what Aiming High is doing, or if you’ve been involved in any of the Aiming High activities that have been going on, then we want to hear from you. Your views are really important, so please get in touch and let us know what you’re thinking by calling the Aiming High office on 0151 4208130, or emailing: aiminghighfordisabledchildren@halton.gov.uk.

Consultations: Aiming High runs a consultation event every few months, so that we can gather people together and hear their views about how we’re doing. Consultation events are good fun and always lively, so if you’d like to attend the next one then please keep an eye out for our fliers and posters. And if you come along, be sure to bring a friend!
